The album ends with a tribute to James' mum, Molly Gallagher, who passed away on January 9th of this year at the age of 96. She would have been 97 this May. James loved his mum, well, to death and she loved him in the same way. After James died, I stayed in touch with her, writing her several times and calling her every few months. I felt I owed it to James to do so, even if there was no shortage of friends and family to look after her, because a few years ago, when Molly was taken ill, he had worried about her and didn't know what he was going to do without her. It felt only natural to do what I would have done if she had been the first of them to go.
Like her son, Molly left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her and she was a true force of nature, right up to the end. She was always welcoming and generous, always making sure people were taken care of when they visited the Gallagher home. She and James also shared the same sense of humor, so she was never lost for words. It’s been a privilege to have known her and I will miss her just like I do her son.
